The same oil that won at Olympia
The bottle on the Erewhon shelf is the same oil that, earlier this summer, received the Gold Standard of Excellence at the 2026 Olympia Health & Nutrition Awards, awarded by the World Olive Center for Health at Ancient Olympia, Greece.
Those awards are decided differently from most. Instead of a sensory panel judging aroma and flavor, the institute measures the polyphenol content of the oil itself, by quantitative nuclear magnetic resonance (qNMR). The batch we submitted returned 1,046 mg/kg total polyphenols. Typical commercial extra virgin olive oil clusters between 100 and 300 mg/kg, and most bottles never publish a number at all. What is actually in the bottle
The oil is pressed from a single olive variety, Olympia, grown on family farms in Messinia in the southern Peloponnese. The olives are hand-picked at peak green stage and cold-pressed within hours of harvest, then bottled in dark glass and sealed under nitrogen to protect the polyphenols that fade so quickly in lesser oils. Every bottle carries its batch number, harvest date, and lab-verified polyphenol reading. We do not blend across harvests or origins, which limits how much we can make, but it means the number on the label is the number in the bottle.
Why Erewhon
Erewhon built its name by refusing to compromise on what earns a place on its shelves. That is the same instinct that led us to obsess over a polyphenol count and third-party lab verification instead of a prettier story. Finding our oil among their selection feels less like a placement and more like two standards meeting in one place, here in our home city.
